Asphalt paving machines Victoria: their purpose.

An asphalt paving machine is a non-labour intensive, machine-based product that is used to lay the road base course out. Our asphalt-based paving machine located in Geelong, Victoria is able to lay the layer of rocks under the asphalt (a road paver), whilst the rollers at the front push the truck along while unloading. The slat conveyor in the middle is the last component that drags the asphalt to the back ready to be laid.

Rather than grinding away several hours of physical labour, the gross power of an asphalt paving machine can perform an immaculate finish all the whilst being efficient and neat.

The asphalt paving machine itself can be divided into two main systems. One being the tractor material feed system which accepts the hot mix asphalt at the front of the machinery to then move it to the rear of the machine and spread it out over the desired length and width that is required and its second purpose is once the material is laid out, the machine is used to then level and compact the asphalt in the screeding phase.

Known as the most critical part of the process, the screed takes the head of the hot mix asphalt to then create the correct level of thickness and provide overall compaction.
The screed helps control the amount of material extruded onto the base course, therefore flattening the asphalt to the surface. The screed can also lend a hand in offering a level surface for compaction regardless of the condition of the base course. But, in most circumstances, the base course needs to be reasonably level in order to prevent cracks and damage in the future.
